U.S. Releases Iranian Diplomats Captured In Raid

Posted by Casey on August 29, 2007

News of the captures broke yesterday, and we were waiting for details on the capture. Now it seems the Iranians will be released.

Newsday:

Eight Iranians, including two diplomats, were released by U.S. forces Wednesday after being detained because unauthorized weapons were found in their cars, the U.S. military said. An adviser to the top U.S. general in Iraq called the detentions “regrettable.”

There has already been other cases of Iranians bringing things into Iraq, that are not authorized, with the permission of the Iraqi government. Somehow, no one informs the US of such moves.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini said the Iranian delegation was in Baghdad to hold talks with Iraqi officials on building a power plant.

Hmmmm, what kind of power plant?

The only reason there were arrests was because the Iraqi security detail didn’t have any permits for their weapons.

Oliver Stone Upset That He Is Part Of "Great Satan", But Michael Moore Isn’t.

Posted by Casey on July 5, 2007

Hell, he’s even comparing Iran’s president to Bush in an effort to paint Ahmadinejad as a part of the Great Satan himself.

Contact Music:

Moviemaker OLIVER STONE has responded to Iranian critics who called him “part of the Great Satan” as they refused his official request to make a movie about President MAHMOUD AHMADINEJAD. The Doors director approached Iranian officials at the beginning of 2007 and revealed his plans to turn the life of the country’s leader into a biopic. But with Iranian/American cultural relations at a new low thanks to the portrayal of Persians in films like 300 and Stone’s Alexander, Middle Eastern film authorities have denied the filmmaker access to Iranian locations. Responding to Stone’s request, Ahmadinejad’s media advisor has said, “While it is true that Oliver Stone is considered to be among the opposition in the U.S., the opposition is still part of the Great Satan.” The director is taking the snub in his stride, stating, “I’ve been called a lot of things, but never a Great Satan. “I wish the Iranian people well and I only hope their experience with an inept, rigid idealogue president goes better than ours.”

Meanwhile, Michael Moore is clearly not seen as part of the Great Satan because he IS allowed access to Iran. Too funny.

Iranians Destroy Gas Stations In Protest Of Government Rationing

Posted by Casey on June 27, 2007

Visions of things to come here when the Democrats impose such a “green friendly” policy?

BBC:

At least 12 petrol stations have been torched in the Iranian capital, Tehran, after the government announced fuel rationing for private vehicles.

Don’t forget that the price of gas is going to go up because of this.

NATO Catches Iran Arming Taliban

Posted by Casey on June 7, 2007

NATO is saying they have Iran dead to rights on this too. As you all know, Iran has been caught arming and training Iraqi terrorists to attack coalition forces, their military has crossed the border into Iraq, and they have engaged US forces in combat.

NATO now says they caught Iran red-handed.

ABC:

NATO officials say they have caught Iran red-handed, shipping heavy arms, C4 explosives and advanced roadside bombs to the Taliban for use against NATO forces, in what the officials say is a dramatic escalation of Iran’s proxy war against the United States and Great Britain.

“It is inconceivable that it is anyone other than the Iranian government that’s doing it,” said former White House counterterrorism official Richard Clarke, an ABC News consultant.

The evidence is solid enough for it to be called “inconceivable” that it could be anyone else but Iran arming the Taliban. That is a pretty profound statement.

NATO even went on to say that this was the official strategy of Iran rather than the actions of a few rogues. They also linked the munitions in Iraq with those taken from this convoy.

The coalition analysis says munitions recovered in two Iranian convoys, on April 11 and May 3, had “clear indications that they originated in Iran. Some were identical to Iranian supplied goods previously discovered in Iraq.”

Nice to know that so many people still don’t think Iran is a threat huh?

7/7 Mastermind Captured In Iraq

Posted by Casey on April 28, 2007

This has been pretty active all day on just about every blog there is. The al Qaeda leader believed to have plotted the London bombings was captured. I’ll give you one guess as to which country they caught him entering Iraq from.

British Sailor Cried Himself To Sleep After Iranians Called Him Mr. Bean

Posted by Casey on April 11, 2007

Guess who’s uber pissed off about it?

This Is London:

Seaman Batchelor’s claim that he cried himself to sleep after his Iranian captors likened him to the comedy character Mr Bean made him a laughing stock.

One serving soldier posted: “Batchelor didn’t do the reputation of servicemen much good either! Being broken by being called Mr Bean FFS! – that must be on a par with Monty Python’s Spanish Inquisition and the comfy cushions.”

Comments left on unofficial forces’ websites, the Rum Ration and the British Army Rumour Service laid into Ms Turney and Mr Batchelor.

Another servicemen says of Mr Batchelor’s complaint that his iPod was stolen by the Iranians: “What I wish to know is why a young lad on a boarding party detail needed to take his iPod? If he listened to The Ride of the Valkyries as he sped towards the target ship, what did he listen to on his trip to Iran?”

Many Americans were attacking the British hostages for their conduct after they were freed, and I posted a poll here, but the British are ticked off more than we are.

Another angry contributor wrote: “They should be expelled from the Armed Forces. Maybe HMS Cornwall could make a series like The Loveboat or be used for Big Brother? The Royal Navy seems intent on becoming a complete laughing-stock.”

You have to truly appreciate the situation if you have Brits saying their navy is a laughing stock.

Pelosi May Visit Iran

Posted by Casey on April 11, 2007

All I ask is that Iran treats her with the same dignity, and awesomeness as Iran treated Faye Turney.

SF Gate:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Tom Lantos, D-San Mateo, just back from a trip to Syria that sparked sharp criticism from Republicans and the Bush administration, suggested Tuesday that they may be interested in taking another diplomatic trip – to open a dialogue with Iran.

The Democratic speaker from San Francisco and Lantos, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, were asked at a press conference in San Francisco Tuesday whether on the heels of their recent trip to the Middle East they would be interested in extending their diplomacy in the troubled region with a visit to Iran.

“Speaking just for myself, I would be ready to get on a plane tomorrow morning, because however objectionable, unfair and inaccurate many of (Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s) statements are, it is important that we have a dialogue with him,” Lantos said. “Speaking for myself, I’m ready to go — and knowing the speaker, I think that she might be.”

Just so you know … if she were to visit Iran in the context in which she is discussing she would be committing another felony.

Many Are Disgusted By The Conduct Of The British Hostages

Posted by Casey on April 6, 2007

Hotair has put a pretty good package together on this so I won’t change it around at this point.

Several people in the US and UK media are upset that the British didn’t resist, and went along with Iranian orders while held captive. While there is a point to what is being said … the British did resist as much as possible without outright confrontation. They changed words around to prevent admitting guilt, but some were edited out by the Iranians. The British hostages are still maintaining their innocence in crossing into Iranian waters, and aren’t restricted in their words now that they are free.

Hotair has all the video via Sky News, and reaction from US and UK media as well as reaction from retired military personnel.
