Students Allege U.S. Government Textbook Is Too Conservative.

Posted by Casey on April 10, 2008

This is beyond ironic, and hypocritical on a scale of epic proportions. Some students are complaining that a U.S. government textbook used in AP and college classes is biased.

LVRJ:

Talk about a civics lesson: A high-school senior has raised questions about political bias in a popular textbook on U.S. government, and legal scholars and top scientists say the teen’s criticism is well-founded.

They say “American Government” by conservatives James Wilson and John Dilulio presents a skewed view of topics from global warming to separation of church and state. The publisher now says it will review the book, as will the College Board, which oversees college-level Advanced Placement courses used in high schools.

Student Matthew LaClair of Kearny, N.J., recently brought his concerns to the attention of the Center for Inquiry, an Amherst, N.Y., think tank that promotes science and which has issued a scathing report about the textbook.

“I just realized from my own knowledge that some of this stuff in the book is just plain wrong,” said LaClair, who is using the book as part of an AP government class at Kearny High School.

Well that’s a rich turn of events. A liberal has finally been exposed to something he believes to be incorrect. Welcome to the universe of conservative students everywhere. I can’t count how many times my textbooks were loaded with liberal lies. My favorite was when my 7th grade US History teacher told the class that we invaded Vietnam because they wanted to elect a communist president. He then followed that lie with the question: “So now who’s the bad guy.” One other student and myself were given detention for pointing out how wrong he was.

Both of the textbook’s authors are “considered conservative” according to the article.

So what is in the book that this student knows is wrong? It starts with global warming.

LaClair said he was particularly upset about the book’s treatment of global warming. James Hansen, the director of NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies, recently heard about LaClair’s concerns and has lent him some support.

James Hansen huh? In case you don’t remember him, he’s the guy who lied about being censored by NASA and the Bush administration because of his climate views. He’s also funded by liberal billionare George Soros. Hansen has also been criticized by the UNs’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change for moving “dangerously away from scientific discourse to advocacy.” Hardly an objective and respected source. Hell, we can throw in the mix that he won’t release information on how he gets his data to form his conclusions, and has revised his statements after NASA’s data destroyed his previous accusations. Let’s face it … libs don’t care what NASA thinks about global warming anyway, because NASA has been saying for years that there is no evidence that humans are causing it. Especially since the sun has warmed up the other planets in the solar system. In fact, the only agencies around the world that study the atmosphere all say that global warming is over. The article goes on to say that there is a scientific consensus that humans cause global warming, and they site a signing party of a couple hundred scientists. You’ll notice they didn’t mention the Oregon Study which sites 1000’s who say the opposite. Besides, less than half of scientists even entertain the idea that man is responsible for global warming, and only 7% explicitly endorse that idea while most are neutral on the matter.

The article does make a few good points with regards to the other questionable material in the textbook, but where was the outrage all of these years when liberal textbooks were teaching kids lies falsehoods? Need some proof? Try this link on liberal textbooks, here’s more, still more, yep … even more, some lies about Jefferson, and even more liberal bias in our textbooks.

I wish society would put some effort into actually teaching factual reality instead of allowing any textbook to interject the author’s political beliefs. Conservative students have been indoctrinated all of these years with factually incorrect books filled with the author’s political ideology, and no one did a damn thing.
